A little girl transitions into a teenager, then into a young lady, next a fully developed woman.  Our bodies have a physical structure that changes whether we like it or not. We cannot stop the cycle from developing, and we must take care of ourselves the older we get. As children the body is stronger, healthier, and more energetic. As we get mature we have to be mindful to give our bodies the proper care that is necessary for us to live a vibrant life and healthy lifestyle. Besides we only get one chance in taking care of our vessels.  I personally enjoy working out; because it is a way for me to remove any stress that may have happened throughout the day.  In order for us to look and feel our best we must do some self-care techniques that will enhance who we are, so we can continue to reach our fitness goals.  I have seven essential tips that will hopefully inspire you to never give up on making sure that you are actively engaging yourself in some type of fitness plan. If you are under doctors care, please make sure that you get clearance before you do any physical activity. Our goal is to live a healthy, happy, and energetic life.

 Tips/questions to consider:

  1. How is your diet? We have to be careful because some of our upbringing can cause us to not have the best eating habits. Make sure that you are mindful to give yourself a healthy balanced meal three times a day.  If you like to snack, please consider eating a variety of natural fruits and food that will strengthen the body.  The type of food we choose for our bodies will either help it or harm us. Junk food is pleasurable but not the best for our bodies. Try to avoid overeating and foods with a lot of fat, sugar, calories, and sodium.
  2. What habits could affect your fitness goals: We live in a world where social connection is very important to some people. However it can involve a lot of people to make choices that are not good for their bodies and health.  If you are a smoker and drinker try to lower the amounts of those usages.  I know it’s easier said than done but try to find ways physically to make sure you’re able to keep your body healthy so that you can be active. I know that drinking is something that is a part of socializing, but the sugar intake has a lot of calories. However if you have to drink consider red wines because they are lower in calories. According to Folloy Enterprise, (2020)  your body should only process a limited amount of alcohol per day. And for many (like women and certain genetics), moderate means just 1 glass of wine. The positive out of this is: now you can drink the good stuff and have it all week!”  Our bodies are amazing and we must take care of them to the best of our abilities. We don’t have to stop our habits but we do need to control them. Moderation and balance is the key.
  3. How often do you workout? Exercising is very good for the human body. Our hearts are the number one factor to consider if we want to have a long life. According to Everyday Health (1996-2020) “Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women in America, but plenty of exercise can help keep your heart healthy. You want to exercise at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week, if not every day. Aerobic exercises (walking, swimming, jogging, bicycling, dancing) are good for women’s health in general and especially for your heart, says Sabrena Merrill, MS, of Lawrence, Kan., a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor and a spokeswoman for the American Council on Exercise.”Making sure your heart is receiving the oxygen that it need so that it will keep your heart healthy.  So set a schedule that is realistic and see how well you feel once you commit to exercising.
  4. Are you stressing: Life is so hard sometimes that we don’t even know that we are under stress. Make sure that you keep yourself stress-free and learn how to strategize with the problems that you may be facing. Fitness would definitely help with those stress levels.  Learn to relax, release, and rejuvenate! According to Everyday Health, (1996-2020) “No matter what stage of her life — daughter, mother, grandmother — a woman often wears many hats and deals with a lot of pressure and stress. “Take a few minutes every day just to relax and get your perspective back again,” Novey says. “It doesn’t take long, and mental health is important to your physical well-being.” You also can manage stress with exercise, relaxation techniques, or meditation.” you deserve to have a long lasting life.
  5. Did you know that the sun is good and bad for you all at the same time? I love to walk in the sun and get my Vitamin D, but too much of anything can affect you. If you enjoy working out in nature, please be mindful to put your sunscreen on so that you can protect your skin from any possible health conditions. According to Everyday Health, (1996 – 2020) “To protect against skin cancer, wear sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 if you are going to be outdoors for more than a few minutes. Even if you wear sunscreen faithfully, you should check regularly for signs of skin cancer. Warning signs include any changes in the size, shape, color, or feel of birthmarks, moles, or freckles, or new, enlarging, pigmented, or red skin areas. If you spot any changes or you find you have sores that are not healing, consult your doctor.”
  6. What do you think about H2O? The body is made up of water therefore we have to keep replenishing it. When you are active and physically fit you have to make sure that your body is not dehydrated but hydrated at all times. One way to determine if you are dehydrated is if your mouth seems dry and could dry out your skin. Make sure when you work out if you have water beside you. Drink it periodically as you are staying fit. According to Healthline (2004 – 2020) “Adult humans are 60 percent water, and our blood is 90 percent water.  There is no universally agreed quantity of water that must be consumed daily. Water is essential for the kidneys and other bodily functions.  When dehydrated, the skin can become more vulnerable to skin disorders and wrinkling.”
  7. Are you getting the proper Rest! Just as much as the body needs to be active it also needs to have some time to relax. Get the rest you need so that you can have a healthy fit lifestyle. Rest causes the body to restore itself so that when it becomes active again it’s not overwhelming by exhaustion.  According to Active Network, (2020) “six to eight hours of sleep will keep the body going throughout the day,” Make sure you rest!

I hope that these tips and questions will be helpful to you as you are pursuing or getting ready to pursue your fitness goals. As women we have to make sure that we keep our minds bodies and souls clear from any toxic injuries. If you were dealing with any fitness issues then hopefully you will no longer have those feelings! Let’s take care of those fitness issues and have some self-control!
