FWM: What is it about the Arts that draws you in?
What draws me in about the arts is the platform it creates for enhanced communication. Communication that thrives on creativity and amplifies expression. Art provides me with several mediums to creatively express my feelings, thoughts, ideas and observations. To me – art imitates life. Our lived experiences inspire it.
FWM: Tell us about your background.
I was born in Lagos, Nigeria. Grew up in an artistic family. My father was a musician and my mother was a fashion designer. I grew up in a home surrounded by lots of music, movies, books and fashion catalogues. So yes, you can say Art is in my DNA. Even though I was in the sciences, the arts was definitely where I belonged. In college, I was part of the Drama Club, Press Club and Music Club.
Professionally, my career began after my performance on a Reality TV Show for Actors in 2005. I started out as a movie actor and then delved into doing more Television Soap Operas and TV Dramas. Since then, I’ve built an extensive career in diverse creative fields – dedicating 16 years of my career to multimedia content development across various applications from film to television to radio, digital media, and print, as an Actress, TV Presenter, Talk Radio Host, Speaker, Author, Publisher and Voice Artist.
I am also a Creative Entrepreneur, Brand Reinvention Coach, and Communication Specialist who helps high performing experts around the world, amplify their influence and create a bigger impact with their brands, platforms, message, products or services. As the Founder & President of The BRAG Media Group, a global creative communications company with several sub-brands, I serve as CEO and Creative Director at The BRAG Media Company – a service arm of BMG offering Brand Consulting, Innovative Media & Creative Services to clients around the world.
FWM: How is The BRAG Media Group building brands globally?
From crafting new brands to reinventing existing ones – we help experts, business owners, creatives and organizations to CREATE a bankable identity, platform, product, message, or service worth (brag)’ging about. We work with them to position their brands, clarify their brand identity, amplify their impact with the right content, and communicate their mission or core message to the world. We help them turn their ideas into reality by maximizing their message, mission, method and market visibility.
FWM: You are a Brand Reinvention Coach and Communication Specialist. What trends are you seeing?
With COVID, some new trends have been set. I see individuals reinventing themselves, establishing new personas, acquiring new skills, up-scaling their offerings and starting new projects or a side hustle. I also see businesses reinventing how they operate, utilizing technology and operating digital channels, companies empowering and encouraging employees to work remotely from home and lots of individuals creating content, building thought leadership and giving premium effort to their personal brands, as it should be.
People are building cross-continental relationships online. They are utilizing many channels/mediums of communication. Of course, there is a major increase in video conferencing and LIVE video streaming on social media. Podcasting and audio streaming is in high demand too.
FWM: You are also an actress. Tell us about your current projects.
Yes, I am. Currently, I just finished working on a screenplay for a film I will be producing, called “Birthrite”. Of course, I’ll be starring in the film playing one of the characters. It is an adaptation of an old Television Play written by my Aunt, Dorothy Akujo in the early ’70s, which I have re-written and adapted for film. I’m also working on producing an in-house Radio Drama series for my network. It’s going to be a radio serial featuring a cross-section of international film and voice actors.
FWM: As the Creator of The NAKED PHILOSOPHY and an Advocate for EXPRESSION and Freedom, what are your initiatives today?
My most important initiative as an Advocate for Expression and Freedom is spreading the concept of “The Naked Philosophy” to empower people to strip down their mental barriers and reinvent themselves using the freedom mindset. Of course I share this concept through my books, podcasts, blog articles, speaking opportunities, coaching sessions and media interviews. I also collaborate with organisations and participate in initiatives that support freedom or allow for self-expression. i.e. the annual global CNN Freedom Project which they invited me to participate in, for three years in a row (from 2018 to 2020).
I believe in Truth; Getting NAKED exposes you to the Truth. Truth leads to Freedom and I believe FREEDOM is the antidote to Fear. That’s why I’m on a mission to empower others with the freedom mindset needed to challenge the illusion of perfection. Why? Because our idea of “perfection” is what is limiting many of us from showing up and playing full out at the highest level of our greatness – but it is also what triggers our biggest resistance – FEAR.
I also believe anybody can CREATE a life, career or business they love. That’s why I’m passionate about helping them have the Freedom to become the highest expression of their truth, talent, and personal greatness because freedom and creativity go hand-in-hand.
We can’t create anything positive, worth manifesting with inhibition, limitation, restriction or barriers. To creatively express the best of who we are – we need to be FREE, from doubt, fear and societal expectations.
FWM: Tell us about your fifth book, The BRAG Factor. Is it a tool for entrepreneurs?
The BRAG Factor is most definitely a tool for entrepreneurs, creatives or anyone who wants to create success with their brands, products, services or organisation. It provides action strategies that every solution provider needs to better position themselves and understand about (B)randing, (R)einventing, (A)ligning and (G)rowing their businesses in this new creative economy. This book is an expanded version of my 2016 signature audio training, The BRAG Factor. It,s a deep dive into the processes and strategy needed to scale.
FWM: What’s next for you?
A lot. We are restructuring and expanding the offerings of the sub-brands within my company, The BRAG Media Group. Also, with my current role as G100 Global Chair for Media Arts & Communication, I’m responsible for the development of my sector’s vision, strategy, network and mission to enhance the visibility and advancement of women working in media arts & communication across the world. I’m definitely committed to the G100 Pact of Purpose to create more opportunities for women across the world, as we expand the media arts sector globally in 100 countries. We have a lot of projects lined up.
