FWM: You wrote and co- produced an uplifting track that is both personal and universal, extremely timely yet timeless, tell us about your new single, “Keep On.”
Keep On is a song with a universal message. We all are going through something. The world is in need of healing and messages of empowerment. It’s my job to shed light on issues and bring people together through music. I wanted to remind people especially now that “Tough times don’t last long. You gotta Keep On.” The light will be there at the end of the tunnel.
FWM: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from my parents who have worked hard my entire life so that their children could have a life better than theirs. I also draw inspiration from strong powerful women like yourself that are determined to make a mark in this world. I love watching people like Serena Williams kill it in her sport. People that beat the odds. That empowers and inspires my entire soul.
FWM: Your song “Keep On” has an inspiring message of positivity, hope, and tolerance. It was noticed by the Black Women for Biden. How does this make you feel? Why is this song resonating with fans?
Being apart of Black Women for Biden is huge. That made me feel that being the positive artists I’ve always been is working out very well. Especially, during the most important and very controversial election of our time. “Keep On” gives us all hope. Anyone and everyone needs hope and music that can speak to them when they need those messages of hope.
FWM: How are you combining your love for the Arts with helping others?
I am definitely always mindful of what I put out as an artist musically, visually, through my interviews, and everything in between. I aim to always put my best foot forward with the quality that my team and I produce because I know that people are watching and listening. I get messages often from women and young girls that tell me how much I inspire them and how they want to be just like me when they grow up. It blows my mind every time. So I have to keep putting out positive content and keep that little girl in mind who is looking up to me and looking at what I do. Every move counts. I utilize my platform to speak on issues that we all go through and I know that will always be appreciated.
FWM: Your song, “Keep On,” is part of your new album coming out next year. Tell us about your album.
I am so excited about my debut album coming out in 2021! We’re still deciding on which songs we will put on the project. But, we’ve carved out over 2 1/2 years working on it. Every song is special to me. They all have live instrumentation from bass, percussion, strings, horns, harp, drums, and so much more. Every song was co-written and co-produced by me. They are all my babies and I just can’t wait for the world to hear them.
FWM: You are on the fast track to stardom, What do you enjoy the most about the entertainment business? Where do you see yourself in 3-years?
I love what I do. This is my purpose so I couldn’t imagine working in another industry for the rest of my life. Singing, writing, performing, and the business aspect is so much work but it’s so much fun. It’s my passion! My manager David Kenneth Sommerville and I started our own entertainment company called “Its Art Entertainment” this year (2020). In three years or less, I will be a household name, touring the world (post-COVID-19), more businesses, and starting my own foundations and schools to help others.
