FWM: Have you always submersed yourself in marketing and business?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by the world of business and marketing. I had a couple of “businesses” as a child, one included designing and selling handmade bookmarks when I was five, and the other was when I knit luxury scarves at nine years old and sold them to family and friends. As much as I loved the world of business and marketing, I actually didn’t plan on venturing into that world. My original plan was to become a psychologist. During a sociology class with a fantastic professor in college, a lightbulb went off as I realized how much I was fascinated by the human mind and what causes us to purchase products. This realization led me to pursue my MBA in Marketing, and I launched my brand soon after.
FWM: You are a Breakthrough Business & Marketing Consultant. How are you helping clients today?
As a Breakthrough Business and Marketing Consultant, I help my clients experience breakthroughs in their business so that they double their revenue. I work primarily with creative female entrepreneurs to create a system to exceed their revenue goals through organic brand building. I work with my clients from a holistic marketing and brand-building approach to hone in on their strengths and utilize them to grow their brands. We use the Enneagram Personality System, which is a system that I’ve been studying heavily throughout the past decade. Honing in on their strengths and utilizing them to grow their brand, to choose proven marketing strategies that excite them to see the success they’ve been hoping for. Additionally, I coach my clients on working smarter, not harder, optimizing their environments for success, and working more efficiently to put more time into doing what they genuinely love.
FWM: Tell us about your international brand, Karmela Cosmetics.
Between my undergrad and grad school, I decided to take a few months to get professionally trained as a makeup artist. As I learned about the products in the market, I noticed that there was a real need for natural, luxury, high-performance cosmetics. Cosmetics that would feel great, look great, and last while formulated utilizing a natural formula. After completing my MBA in Marketing, I launched my brand, Karmela Cosmetics, a high-performance, natural, clean beauty brand with shades for every skin tone, focused on giving back to women’s healing and empowerment.
Our brand is focused on giving back to women’s healing and empowerment by helping all women feel strong, capable, and beautiful. We currently have a giving back program, through which we donate 10% of profits from each color collection to a different non-profit, dedicated to a specific healing initiative for women, including eating disorders, endometriosis, breast cancer, and hair loss.
Additionally, I host a brand podcast where I speak with women to give them a space to share their stories. These women have all been through challenges they have worked hard to overcome. Through this platform, I have been able to normalize and create awareness of the problems women face. Ultimately, my goal is for women to feel connected to each other and see how, despite our external differences and the various paths we take in life, we’re actually very much alike.
We’re trying to create awareness and change by utilizing our social media platforms, as well as our brand podcast, “We Are Women.” It’s so important to help women feel that they’re not alone in whatever they’re going through and know that there is an end in sight. Often, hearing other women’s stories and what they have had to overcome can inspire other women who are going through these challenges to feel hopeful and gain the energy to continue fighting for their health and well-being.
FWM: “As a fellow business owner and marketing consultant, I understand how overwhelming it can be to start and run a business and the endless questions.” What is your best advice to women starting out?
The first thing that I always make sure my clients remember is that everything is temporary. You can always change your decisions, and nothing is set in stone. I find that this helps my clients relax and think clearly throughout building a business and know that they don’t have to be locked into these decisions for the lifetime of their business.
Secondly, be yourself. Sometimes we can get caught up in comparison. We see other people’s success and think that the way they’re accomplishing it is the way to do it. The truth is, though, that we have different strengths and gifts. The strategies that worked for someone else may not work for you, and vice versa. Also, if you dial into what lights you up and aligns with your personality, you’ll always be ten steps ahead because no one else can be you.
FWM: Take us through the process of working with you.
The first step is creating the foundation pillar of their business. I guide my clients in building a strong personal brand that will drive their ideal customers to purchase from them. This includes dialing into who they are serving, the value they’re giving over to their ideal client/customer, and more.
Once that’s established, I then teach them proven marketing strategies and guide them on choosing the ones that resonate with them that will accelerate the success of their business. These strategies range from getting in the media, traditional marketing strategies, social media, etc. These are proven marketing strategies that I’ve been extensively trained in and utilized myself in my business growth.
As a business owner, it’s essential to be in a positive, growth mindset to accomplish growth. I work with my clients in guiding them in releasing limiting beliefs and shifting beliefs that no longer serve them so that they receive the abundance that is their birthright.
Lastly, I help my clients learn how to optimize their environment for success and work efficiently to save time and energy. The goal is to have their business work for them so they can accomplish their revenue goals while doing what they truly love.
FWM: Please share a few client success stories.
I had one client who came in with no experience in business. She had worked in a low-paying secretarial job which she dreaded every day. Throughout our sessions, we worked on honing into her ideal client, strategizing on what her brand would stand for, and pitching to the media. Halfway through the program, she began getting published in magazines she pitched to, and once we finished the program, she went from quitting her job to selling paintings for thousands of dollars apiece.
Another client had an idea for her business and knew where she wanted to be but had no idea how to take steps to get there. We honed in on a marketing strategy that resonated with her during our time together. She gained tremendous clarity on her business, experienced empowering shifts, and gained a celebrity client and great publicity in just a few weeks.
I had another client who started working with me during a period when she felt ready to give up. She felt depressed and frustrated with the direction her business was headed. During our time together, I guided her in shifting some things in her business. She experienced breakthroughs in her brand image and completely shifted her mindset to one of empowerment and excitement. She ended up getting published in huge publications during our time together and had influencers naming her products as their favorites in interviews.
FWM: Your popular podcast “We Are Women,” show is where women speak their truth & celebrate their victories. Who has inspired you?
I’ve been inspired by many women, some of whom you’ve heard on our podcast, others who are more private with their stories.
Our first podcast guest in August 2020 was Diana Falzone, an Editor, and Journalist for Vanity Fair. Diana inspired me with her bravery in coming out publicly with her Endometriosis story and then suffering the consequences of discrimination from FOX, where she worked at the time as a media personality. Yulady Saluti, inspires me with her perseverance and using her painful times to inspire others. Heidi Baker, a wonderful person and manifestation coach, inspires me as an entrepreneur and overcoming tremendous obstacles and how she dealt with a significant loss early on in her career.
