FWM: You have written stories designed to excite the imagination. Share your work with us.
My work is all about love and hope. I know what it is like to feel so separated from God and to feel so alone that I create works to help shift that vibration in others. We all deserve the fairy tale and our happily ever after. Sometimes we lose sight of that because of our life experiences, and it gets buried under regret, loss, trauma, and grief. So, I aspire to ignite a spark of hope that something greater and more beautiful always exists no matter what we have been through. I want that to be my gift through my work and sometimes to accomplish that you have to create worlds and be unafraid to cross boundaries. Magic never happens by staying within the lines if that makes any sense.
FWM: What led you to act? What roles interest you?
I have always enjoyed acting and it is something my mom nurtured in me as a little girl. Acting, writing, and storytelling has always been part of who I am. It is only recently have I really started to believe that my gifts will make room for me. Playing the love interest that has to overcome something are the types of roles that make my toes curl. I am also interested in playing the unconventional hero that has to tap into their inner strength to save the day.
FWM: Share your strengths as a Filmmaker.
I feel I am great at team building and creating an environment where people feel comfortable to shine. Being a Filmmaker is a collaborative art and leaves minimal room for ego. I know the gifts God has given me and know where my strengths lay. Iam also very aware of my weaknesses and realize that nothing great can be accomplished alone. With that being said, I utilize my team. I trust my tribe and rely on them to help me bring my vision. This energy has allowed me to create wonderful projects with beautiful people quickly and in a short amount of time.
FWM: Tell us about your series, Bubbly Brown Sugar which has won many awards.
Bubbly Brown Sugar is about two soulmates meeting in their dreams and how they try to find each other in real life. Now even though some unforeseen magic is allowing them to have these rendezvous in their sleep, they each have some things they need to clean up in real life before fate brings them together. Eachepisode reveals a little bit more about their individual lives and how destiny is drawing them closer to one another.
FWM: What is your favorite scene?
I loved writing the scene between Angela and Caleb in episode 6 where she makes her big confession. It was one of the scenes I was looking forward to shooting the most because of the weight of its subject matter. However, I think my favorite scene is between Gabe and Jewel in episode 3 after their couple’s shower. I think it is so beautifully shot and is a tender moment between two people that love each other.
FWM: Why do audiences love Bubbly Brown Sugar?
I believe people love Bubbly Brown Sugar because of how it makes them feel. It is a beautiful love story that fills people with hope. With the weight of all that has happened in recent months and possibly even years, people are yearning for content and experiences that make them feel good. We are designed to love and to be loved and I feel like this show simply makes you feel good. With all that we have been through, we all need more of that energy in our lives.
FWM: What is next for you?
I am in post-production for a short film called Our Love, which was directed by one of my creative partners, LaVarro Jones and shot by Ty Stone, both of whom worked on Bubbly Brown Sugar. I also am pitching a feature called One Wish and a supernatural drama called Tribe. My goal is to finish writing seasons two and three of Bubbly Brown Sugar before winter so we can potentially shoot in early 2021.
