Dr. Tina Whitfield on the Power of Reflection

Questions about Dr. Whitfield and her industry

FWM: We’re so happy to catch up with you! Please… Introduce yourself to our audience.

TW: Dr. Tina Whitfield is an author of inspirational manuscripts that inspire adults and children. She is a mother that adores her champion son, “Myles.” She is devoted to encouraging women to take care of themselves first to be strong enough to care for their families. She is the owner of Inner Peace Publishing. Dr. Tina Whitfield grew up in a small town called “Rocky Mount, NC.”

FWM: What circumstances led you to your industry?

TW: There were many variables that played a part in persuading me to write. During my undergraduate years at NCCU, a professor took interest in my writing, but my mother was against me switching my major. Ironically years later during prayer at my church, I asked God what is it that I should be doing.  He showed me a pen! Amazing how life always brings you full circle. For years I have always taken the time to journal my daily events or emotions. When taking that time to reflect on what I was saying, I realized that my growth could also help others. Instead of keeping the solutions to myself by listening and reading my bible. I decided to step out and give it an opportunity to evolve and that is exactly what has happened.

During the years that past, I would often get off track and start doing what I thought was politically correct, but there was still this voice that said, reach for your dream.

FWM: How did you decide to make it your own?

TW: Making my books my own has been the easiest for me. I believe in being authentic at all times so that the barriers that may plague others don’t discourage me. I don’t look with my eyes, but with my heart. My favorite quote of all times is by Helen Keller, “The most important things in life can’t be seen or even felt it must be touched by the heart. I often change it to fit my situation, but everything that is done with your heart is something that you really want to do and it is not guided by others.

FWM: What has been your greatest challenge in your industry? Why?

TW: My greatest opposition with my craft is myself. Trusting that I am good enough and that my voice holds weight. Doubt comes quickly along with excitement, but rest assure I constantly motivate myself to move forward until I have the Pulitzer prize or the #1 Best Seller. Often I’m always motivated when someone ask me when is the next book or what you said has changed me.

Questions about her evolution

FWM: Who else has helped you evolve into the person you are today?

TW: My mother has influenced me the most although she passed away when I was twenty-one. In my third year of college, she sent me a card that says, “Your dreams are meant to be reached for.” During the years that past, I would often get off track and start doing what I thought was politically correct, but there was still this voice that said, reach for your dream. My son has been influential with my drive to be more than ordinary.

FWM: Can you share a time that forces were working against you? How did you overcome the challenge?

TW: In life obstacles will always occur. Two years ago at the height of Covid I was laid off from a position that I worked hard to achieve. During that time it was the most difficult time for me to find a position. During that time, I wrote more, and God kept me in a way that is still astounding to me. I stop looking for what again looked as though it is politically correct but I poured into my writing and now I have a series of children’s books that have been birth into existence. Although I have a new position, my main goal is to focus on how to continue to put my gift first.
