Megan Murphy created Loumi after she was constantly traveling for work and started noticing the impact it was having on her skin. Her need for a simple, natural skincare routine that would help with dark spots and puffiness is what sparked her vision for Loumi. A long-time advocate for CBD, she incorporated it into the formulation because of its powerful healing and antioxidant properties. LOUMI is offered in collections including the Bundle Trio. FWM: Share your background and what led you to launch your company.
I started researching CBD years ago. My Mom used it topically to manage her arthritis, and it relieved a lot of her pain. Around that same time, I was experiencing chronic hives. I did a deep dive into the products I was using, and changed my diet, but couldn’t pinpoint what was causing the discomfort and swelling. My hives worsened when I began traveling non-stop for work; that’s when I decided to try CBD myself and eliminate ingredients I couldn’t pronounce. Finally, I began to see a difference and it became clear that I needed natural, clean products with anti-inflammatory properties. This motivated me to start LOUMI.
FWM: Tell me about your products.
Right now, LOUMI offers 4 products. Each is all natural, vegan, cruelty-free, and contains CBD.
The Say Aloe! All Day Cream is infused with aloe vera, algae, hyaluronic acid, and CBD. It contains the highest concentration of CBD of all the products, which promotes healing of damaged and aging skin. It’s also super lightweight and oil-free, which I love!
The ‘You Up?’ Eye Cream is a natural brightener. It’s my personal favorite because it really helps if you are sleep deprived…making a dream happen doesn’t come with extra sleep. The rice bran oil improves circulation and the CBD reduces puffiness, the perfect combo to combat dark circles.
The Rose Glow Illuminating Oil is our best seller and I can see why. It smells like a rose and is gentle on the skin. Use it in the morning or before bed and it leaves your face feeling calm and silky. The jojoba is rich in vitamin E and B and rosehip works with the CBD to reduce fine lines.
We just launched REVIVE Retinol drops last month, and who doesn’t love retinol? It’s vanilla coconut, so think tropical fountain of youth. The retinol helps even out your skin and produce cell turnover, but it doesn’t mix well with the sun, so definitely use as part of your nighttime routine.
FWM: You use CBD in your products. Why did you decide to include CBD?
It just made sense. Free radicals, which are all around us in cooking oil, processed foods, red meat, sugar, alcohol, air pollutants, and more, are a major source of aging. What combats free radicals? Antioxidants. CBD is an impressive source of antioxidants, and its healing properties are hard to ignore. There is also a lot of research out there on CBD helping with acne and eczema, so combining this key element with all-natural ingredients seemed like a game-changer.
FWM: Have you always been an advocate of CBD?
Oh yes, I love it! I had a bad skiing accident a few years back where I broke my leg and tore up my knee, so I apply it regularly to my lower back and leg. It really does help with the pain. I take CBD gummies as well to help me relax my mind before bed. It’s also great for sunburn. So yeah, I’m probably the biggest advocate.
Do you have a favorite product?
That’s a tough one because I really do love them all. I think right now my favorite is the eye cream. I really can notice a difference if I forget to use it. It also mixes well as a base for concealer. The eye cream and the all-day cream are both fragrance-free, so you can reapply as needed.
FWM: Share your vision for 2021.
This year I want to bring more awareness to our brand and the CBD component of our line. We are also changing our packaging to become as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. I believe that’s really important with everything going on in the world, and I need to feel good about what I’m putting out there.
