FWM: You live by your quote, “My culture is my pride and identity.” Share your proudest moments in your life.
Promoting cultural diversity has been my passion. Being a showcase of African cultural heritage through my talent in music, acting and writing has made me a strong woman. The launching of my first cultural music album in 2007 in Canada was a very memorable day. Being able to bring epic of Africa alive on stage in Canada was a thing of pride. Making a mark at the Nigerian gala night in Calgary with my cultural creativity was a proud moment and the video produced by Whitepine Productions has gone far and wide globally. Being a voice of peace in a movie called “Tribal War” where I played the role of a Muslim woman, till today is a proud moment. In 2019, I had the opportunity to teach International students at the Institute Notre Dame, Chatres France how to make African movies as a showcase of cultural diversity. I look back to these moments with gratitude.
FWM: You have seen culture weave into the collective consciousness and fabric of every nation. Through the times of the global pandemic, what has impressed you the most about the people?
The global pandemic came as a wake-up call to humanity to embrace oneness. What impressed me the most is the global awareness to be your brother’s keeper and the movement of support around the World. The global pandemic attacked humanity and brought about the need for us to value each other beyond shades of skin color or religion but as one humanity. People in so many different ways cared for each other.
FWM: Share your philosophy about music and performing artists as a way to create peace?
My work in cultural music and performing arts is ground in the truth that music is a Universal language that speaks only to the soul. By understanding the impact of culture and ways culture weaves into the collective consciousness and fabric of every Nation. I believe that exchange of cultures through music and performing arts opens the gate way to deep understanding of each other’s soul which yields respect for human dignity, a person’s right for individuality, collective respect for humanity and human rights for all especially, the generation of the youth inheriting the world in front of them.
FWM: Is it time for change?
Life is meant to inspire you, sometimes challenge you. I believe that the global pandemic has brought a big change to the World that each and every one of us should pay close attention to. Yes, it’s time for change in the ways that we treat one another. It’s time for the World to come together as one human race.
FWM: What will make the world a better place?
Let’s continue spreading the message of peace. Your power to inspire others is the key to making this World a better place.
