The future of fashion lies in the digital space and Jazmin Schmerber is multiple steps ahead of everyone. From model to entrepreneur, It Girl Jazmin Schmerber garners the drive and determination that it takes to successfully revolutionize an industry.
Modeling was something that always came naturally to Jazmin and a dream she had for herself from a young age. When she was younger, her parents would take her out to Los Angeles on the weekends for auditions and eventually modeling became more of a weekend job for her. At 18, she was able to fully transition to modeling when she moved out to LA. For about 10 years, Jazmin worked as a model and
recalls the end of that time of her life as memorable as she was able to really pick and choose which jobs she wanted and got to travel around the world to shoot. During this time, she graced the covers and was featured in magazines such as ELLE Magazine and Sports Illustrated.
She shares with Formidable Woman, her brand Equilibre LA.
FWM: Share your background as a successful model and entrepreneur.
I started modeling in my teens. I always knew that modeling was never going to be my ending point. I think having that dissociation helped me along the way. I never became attached to the outcome. It led me to where I am today where I brought my love for fashion and health together.
FWM: Do you have a favorite project?
Yes! And I’m happy to share that. I love my cross-over with Equilibre, my activewear brand into the digital space. I think big names in fashion are all trying to dive into the digital space and see how relevant it is.
FWM: What does it take to be a successful model?
I think remaining professional is number 1. Arrive on time, be respectful of people’s time. Remain humble. Treat every job as if it is the highest paying job. Be kind and mindful.
FWM: Tell us about your brand, Equilibre, LA.
I created Equilibre to bring a fusion between fashion and health. I figured there had to be a market for fashionable women who didn’t want to sacrifice quality, sustainability, and fashion forward pieces that they could carry to the gym/ class as well.
FWM: How have you merged fashion, activewear, and sustainability with your brand?
I bring fashion forward through design, all while wearing performance fabrics that are sustainable. We choose fabrics from the most ethical and sustainable mills.
FWM: What makes Equilibre, LA unique?
I think my fresh perspective as an activewear consumer and founder. My background in Los Angeles, modeling, design, and many new spaces such as digital fashion.
FWM: Tell us about your collaboration with The Ohzone Inc.
I had been researching digital fashion and super interested in this new space. a friend of mine I met in Paris during a fashion program referred me to her. We minted (created one-of-a-kind) digital versions of my IRL (in real life) physical garments to auction for charity. She is just someone I look up to as a woman in her capabilities and what she has accomplished.
FWM: What are your top-sellers?
My top-sellers have been the designs I took the biggest risks on. My first collection contains everything from basics to fashion forward pieces because I wanted to keep it safe in some areas. It’s my biggest mistake but I’m also, very happy about that.
FWM: What lessons have you learned during your journey?
So many.
- Leading well comes with experience and appreciation. I am still learning.
- It’s ok to not know something and ask for help. Most people are faking it until they know too.
- Never think that your inexperience or age makes you under qualified.
- Less experience = fresh, new perspective.
FWM: Do you plan any new products for 2022?
I hope to collaborate with many possibilities in the digital space, it’s endless. I also would like to bring experiences/ pop up stores to the nearest big city near you.
