Lisa Remillard of the Popular Shows, “Carlos & Lisa” and BEONDTV

Lisa Remillard is a two-time Emmy nominated television journalist with a modern twist. In just the last two years she has blazed a new trail in the online journalism world by using her reporting skills and 20 years of broadcast news experience to craft unique, fact based and relatable short-form news stories exclusively for social media. As of today she has more than 2 million subscribers, fans and loyal followers who rely on her to bring them the news every day. Her work has been featured in The Washington Post and Yahoo!. She was also honored by NYU for her TikTok explainer videos and was named to the Who’s Who Maker’s List of “Thought Leaders and Influencers of Tomorrow.”

Lisa is the co-founder of BEONDTV a world-wide digital platform for cool curated content and is also the co-host of “Carlos & Lisa,” a Los Angeles based television talk show that appears on KDOC-TV and also digitally on BEONDTV, Amazon Fire and ROKU.

Through her company ProMedia Coaching, she uses her storytelling abilities and on-camera expertise to teach entrepreneurs, business owners and aspiring journalists how to tell their own stories effectively on camera so they can communicate with their ideal audiences.

FWM: You have a 20 year career in journalism. Why is it your passion?

I told my mom when I was 4-years-old that I wanted to be a reporter on TV. I have known for a long time this was going to be my path and I worked really hard to make it happen.

Reporting and anchoring local news broadcasts for 15 years was a real accomplishment for me. I got to do everything I ever wanted including working my way back home to anchor the news in Southern California.

But in the last two years, creating “The News Girl” platform on social media has really given me a renewed sense of why I got into journalism in the first place.

I love facts. I love to share facts. I love digging around in boring documents to find the truth and then use the skills I’ve developed over my career to explain those seemingly boring facts in a way that’s interesting and relevant to everyone’s everyday life.

My followers always thank me and tell me that I make the news understandable and that when they hear something they “run” to my page to verify if it’s true. I get hundreds of comments a day from my followers telling me that they trust me. That’s the best compliment I could ask for.

FWM: As of today, 2  million subscribers, fans and loyal followers trust “The News Girl.” Are you putting the “Real” back into news?

I feel it’s my responsibility to bring the ideals and ethics of traditional journalism back to the mainstream and weave those ideals into the new digital age. There are plenty of incredible journalists out there today doing amazing work, but unfortunately, their work is overshadowed by the conspiracy, commentary and speculation of the internet.

I believe the path I am creating is the future of news and journalism. People want the simplicity of the news delivered to their phones. They want to feel like they can trust the people who are reporting the news for them. And sadly, these days, there is a large majority of people who don’t trust traditional broadcast news.

I have made it my mission to always be accurate, always be honest and always listen to what my followers are saying and answer their very real questions. I think they feel forgotten and left out. I want to make sure, to the best of my ability, that I hear them and get them through what’s happening in the world around them.

Because I am just one person and I do everything myself including, source, report, shoot, edit and do all the graphics for each of my social media news stories, I can’t possibly cover every big story in the country ever single day.

So, I just started The News Girl News Roundup daily email. It’s free and my followers just sign up on my website. Every night I send them an email with my daily videos and other big stories they should be watching.

In the next month or so I am going to be announcing the next level of my journey as “The News Girl.” It will be just one more way I can serve my audience.

FWM: Tell us about BEONDTV and the entertaining content you offer.

BEONDTV is one of my greatest accomplishments.

Starting a business is always scary, especially for a journalist who has only known the inside of a newsroom. But to be able to co-create something so positive with the other co-founders who are so talented and dedicated has been such a dream.

BEONDTV is a platform for cool, curated content. Our mission is to uplift, educate and entertain and everything we do revolves around that mission. We are very proud to be a Certified Women Minority Business Enterprise.

BEONDTV has the only entertainment show based in Las Vegas, called “Lights, Camera, Vegas.” We have an amazing travel show called “Explore This” with two hosts who you’ve seen on Discovery Channel. They take viewers to the most amazing places in the world. Interested in the crypto currency world, not sure what it is or how it works? We have “BEOND the Blockchain.” And of course we have our flagship show, “Carlos & Lisa” which is the show I co-host with my longtime television partner and BEONDTV co-founder, Carlos Amezcua.

Besides the amazing content we provide our television and online viewers, BEONDTV believes in putting content creators first, making them part of the process and giving them ownership over their work.

Most of the time, creators and talent are left out of that side of the business. As creators ourselves, we don’t believe in that.

Together, we have grown BEONDTV to 8 shows, 3 television partners (and growing), 9 million+ monthly impressions and 4 million views across our digital channels.

All that in just 4 years.

FWM: How much fun is it to host your show?

“Carlos & Lisa” is such a fun show. My cohost Carlos Amezcua and I go way back. We anchored the morning news in San Diego together for years and after our viewers told us they loved our rapport because it was so unique and so funny, we decided to take a huge risk and leave our very stable jobs to create a show for ourselves.

So that’s what we did in 2018. And we never looked back.

FWM: You were honored with the Who’s Who Maker’s List of  “Thought Leaders and Influencers of Tomorrow.”  What is the proudest moment during your career?

Being in television news gives you a lot of opportunities and opens the door to amazing, rare experiences. When I look back at my broadcasting career I have two extremely proud moments. The first was many years ago when I worked in Florida. At the time, voyeurism against children was a misdemeanor. After I exposed the flaw in the law and because of my stories, a state lawmaker worked to change the law to make it a felony in the state of Florida. That was a very proud moment. My other proudest moment was when I became the first journalist allowed inside the United States Air Force Weapons School at Nellis Air Force Base. I worked really hard to get the Pentagon to trust me with the story. The Weapons School is the “Top Gun” of the Air Force and prior to my 2-part series, they had never allowed journalists inside. During that story I also got the chance to fly in an F15e Strike Eagle to show viewers how the best of the best in the Air Force train for combat. I received my second Emmy nomination for those pieces.

FWM: Tell us about ProMedia Coaching and the ways you are helping individuals to be camera ready.

ProMedia Coaching allows me to help my clients effectively tell their stories on camera so they can connect with their ideal audiences. Now that we’re in the social media marketing and Zoom world, if you aren’t creating video content for your business or can’t effectively communicate on camera to your team or your employees, you’re behind the curve.

But this isn’t an ability most people are born with. It is a skill. So, I teach my clients the skills, tricks and shortcuts I’ve developed for myself over the last 20 years so my clients can be their best on camera and accomplish their business and professional goals.

My proudest moment is when my clients complete the program and it clicks in for them. That’s when they understand the process and they’re able to feel confident on camera without me. I know I’ve made a difference for them and that makes me happy.

FWM: What are some of the challenges your clients are facing?

Generally, people who come to me are looking for help in one of two different areas. Some people are beginners who don’t like the way they look like on camera, don’t know what to say in a video and don’t like the sound of their own voice. They know they should be doing videos for their business, brand or product but they aren’t because they’re intimidated, feel embarrassed about putting themselves out there or don’t know where to start. I always tell my clients these feelings are completely normal. Camera work is a skill. It doesn’t magically happen. I usually send people in this situation through my 30-day one-on-one program or 30-day group program depending on where exactly they’re starting from. The other group of people I see the most are struggling with content strategy and conversion. They usually are already creating content but it’s not converting or resonating with their ideal audiences. I really can help them dig into why their content isn’t converting and I come up with a solid content plan and strategy to turn things around.

FWM: What can we expect to see next on BEONDTV?

There are always new developments with BEONDTV. We are expanding our distribution with more TV stations and digital platforms coming on board very soon. Our hosts are amazing and continue to bring amazing new content, A-list celebrities and travel experiences. And we are looking to develop a BEONDTV app to make the experience even better for our viewers.
