Meet Chef Sheridan Street of Street and Spice

With a fusion of flavor, family and flare, Chef Sheridan Street brings a lifetime love of food to Street and Spice. After experiencing boredom of fast food in her college years, Sheridan used her culinary skill and knowledge of ingredients to create culinary delights infused with the tastes of her heritage and an intimate feel. From food blogger to restaurateur, Sheridan continually strives to raise the bar in the culinary industry one dish at a time.

FWM: Sheridan, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule for this interview. Please introduce yourself to our readers.

SS: I’m Sheridan Street, 32 years young from San Diego, CA. I currently live in Los Angeles where this journey of becoming a chef became a reality.

FWM: What led you to becoming a chef?

SS: Having major family influence on food is my number one connection to the field. I watched my grandma make family meals without using a measuring cup and memorizing steps as if she had a blindfold on. My father also had a strong influence on me as he worked in many restaurants and spoiled me with dishes when he could. My interest was always there but it really took flight when I was in college, at CSULB, and was so tired of the fast food diet. I started meal prepping for myself and my peers started to notice too. From starting a food blog in 2016 to hosting some local and private events; working with major brands and then some major celebrities and athletes, the ball just continued to roll and grow. Truly a testimony and a blessing.

FWM: With having a multicultural background, does your heritage play a great part in your food?

SS: My mother is Costa Rican and my father is African American. Growing up with different cultures was rewarding because I got to experience flavors and traditions that I later used to grow and fall in love with fusion food. Techniques and flavors can be blended to make new, that’s what I love to do in my cooking. There’s really no limit.

FWM: Food often reminds us of places of joy and comfort in our lives. What is your favorite food related memory?

SS: My favorite food related memory was when I was a young child. I went to go visit with my aunt and we decided to make pizzas for dinner, some quality bonding time. As I love my aunt dearly I thought she was very strict so I was trying to not make a mess and be quick. As we were building our pizzas for the oven, pepperoni slices started to fly from the center of the kitchen across the air to our pizza doughs that sat on top of the counter across the way. We were having fun, and playing with food at that! Her wife walked in the door from work and we froze as if we were both in trouble and all we could do was laugh. Food really brings people together, who said you couldn’t play with food?!

FWM: Street & Spice also offers a private chef service. Please tell our readers more about it.

SS: Since Covid hit I’ve been focusing on smaller, more intimate, gatherings. I plan and cook for the client and their guests by curating a menu that fits their event and pay attention to details like incorporating a favorite color, flavor profile, or adding a signature cocktail to their menu. It’s all in the details baby!

FWM: How can our readers connect with you and your brand?
