Matilda Dahlin is garnering up her drive and determination to take on the fashion world to reach her ultimate potential. Matilda’s modeling career began with a local beauty pageant her senior year of high school. After realizing she wanted to step away from pageants and focus on modeling, Matilda used the strong connections she had gained with fashion photographers and along with the help of her mom who was also a photographer, she began to build up her portfolio. Since then, Matilda has done a variety of amazing things from walking the runway for L.A. fashion week, being featured in a car commercial for Dodge Automotive, as well as being featured in a music video with The Game, Lil Wayne, Jeremih and Fabulous for their new single “All That Lady.” She was also highlighted in a second music video for Chris Brown ft E-40 “Episode.” Recently, Matilda has been working with fashion photographers for magazine editorials as well as shooting for clothing lines and campaigns for brand new collections.
She has been featured in magazines such as Fashion Faces Magazine, Vogue Italia, CIE Fashion Magazine, Wedding Ideas, and as of late has been featured in L’Officiel India and FHM India. With a dream to one day be the face of designer brands such as GUESS, Matilda is surely working her way towards it.
Matilda is never afraid to reach high for her dreams and reach her full potential. With hopes to continue taking the world by storm and continue traveling and shooting all around the world, walking New York and Paris Fashion Week and being the next GUESS girl, Matilda is determined to continue to explore and embrace the new opportunities that await her just around the corner as she looks to excel in her future as America’s Next Sensation.
FWM: You are known as “America’s Next Sensation.” Tell us about your background.
Growing up with fashion designers in my family and my mom being a photographer I have always felt like modeling and fashion has been in my blood. It has been my calling since I was a little girl. I remember hanging up posters on my wall saying I wanted to be like one of those models one day.
FWM: Fashion has always been part of your life. What inspires you about fashion?
I would say that my grandmother and my mom first inspired me about fashion as they would dress me in high-end fashion clothes and fabric from an early age. I remember my mom dressing me up in nice clothes all the time for school and all I wanted to do was to play “dress up” and pretend to be princesses with jewelry and costumes all day. I just love high fashion and the quality of the fabrics. I also love the creativity behind a lot of high fashion designs as it is very different from the norm.
FWM: Tell us about your modeling career.
I have been fortunate to grace the covers of FHM magazine for India, One West Magazine as well as being featured in major magazines such as L’OFFICIEL, VOGUE ITALIA, FHM Sweden, Wedding Ideas, Fashion Faces and the latest one, GMARO magazine. I have also been featured on some major billboards for a luxury brand in Las Vegas this past year. In addition, being a social media influencer and partnering with a fragrance company to make my own perfume. Previously I have also walked the runway for fashion week several times and participated in photo shoots for clothing campaigns.
Matilda hopes to inspire other women to believe in their determination and inner beauty. “I think we should all be empowering each other because I have been on the other side where I was being bullied so my hope is that women pick each other up no matter what,” she says. “With today’s beauty standards, it’s important to realize that social media isn’t always correct, I hope women see how they are as their real selves instead of just in social media which could be a fantasy sometimes.”
FWM: Any advice for women to have a successful model career?
Always follow your gut. If something feels wrong, walk away immediately. Be aware of scammers and con artists at all costs. They will take advantage of you in many ways. Follow your dreams and passion but always be cautious. Most importantly, do it because it makes YOU happy.
FWM: What lessons have you learned along the way?
I have learned to not always be trustworthy of other people. I have been hurt many times in my career and if I had a chance to redo it, I would. I like to see the best in people, but it has gotten me more hurt than ever. Follow your dream and be patient. If plan A doesn’t work, you have to work on plan B and C.
FWM: Who would you like to work with?
I would love to work with major brands such as GUESS, Dior, Gucci and other brands such as Fashion Nova, Pretty Little Thing and House of CB.
FWM: Tell us about your upcoming projects.
Right now, I’m working on several magazine covers and features and hoping to partner and model for some major clothing brands and be a brand ambassador.
