National Talent Agent Myeka Johnson

FWM: What does it take to be a successful Talent Agent?

Before giving myself the title Talent Agent, my title was CEO/ Senior Project Manager. I owned a company called Direct Consultants, LLC, which was a business consulting firm. We helped startup companies and established companies grow and expand their business. Part of my job was building relationships, but most importantly, the RIGHT relationships. I believe it’s not about how many people are in your circle, but who.

FWM: Have you always had an entrepreneurial mindset?

Yes! My dream was to be CEO of my own company. I made it happen at age 17, while still in high school. It started out small. I called it MJ’s Be YOU, LLC. We changed the name to Direct Consultants, LLC. It was such a success that I was able to retire at age 29. I built a career that gave me the option to not work a 9-5 and to be financially stable before turning 30 all on my own.

FWM: When you represent clients, what is paramount? What will they notice about you?

My most recognizable quality is my personality. I have a big personality and I also have a driven personality. I want what I want, and I am going to get with or without anyone. People are naturally drawn to me because who I am and the type of mindset, I wear right on my sleeves for the world to see.

FWM: You were in Forbes 30 Under 30. What did this mean to you? Share your advice for young people.

I was nominated for Forbes 30 Under 30 two years in a row. Once, by a mentor of mine who has connections within the Forbes community and the second time, by my assistant’s best friend’s dad’s business who we had completed some projects for. When I received the email that I had been nominated, I nearly fainted. I didn’t get my hopes up because I knew it was tough to earn the title, but I felt grateful to get recognized by people I didn’t know were paying attention.

FWM: What is your mantra?

“Live life how you want and mind your business.”

FWM: 2020 has been a turbulent year. How have you pivoted as a successful National Talent Manager? What is your vision for 2020?

2020 hasn’t affected me like it has others. It’s been a great year. I made it very clear to myself and others, that “2020 is my year.” I’ve accomplished a lot this year and things keep getting better and better.

FWM: Tell us about Project Persevere. Why is it so important to you?

The MJI Brand is an affiliation of Myeka Johnson, INC. The Brand is a platform to help those in need by providing a platform to expose their talents and skills to overcome their circumstances. This is important to me because I grew up with many skills and talents but lacked the resources. I created my own journey and it paid off at the end.
