FWM: You started your professional makeup career on set at 17 shadowing Celebrity Makeup Artist, Joanna Simkin. What did you learn from her?
Joanna was doing makeup for my singing group I was in, RILEY at the time and I told her how much I had enjoyed doing makeup and wanted to learn more about the industry. I went on to shadow her for a job but shortly after she left for New York. It was a wonderful experience to watch the way that she moved in the room and onset. She is one of the main reasons I was drawn to set life.
FWM: Tell us about the fascinating people you work with today.
I’m currently working with Group Nine/PopSugar and Tayla Parx most consistently and honestly I learn so much from both a company structure and a musical artist/songwriter/entrepreneur client. It definitely keeps me on my toes.
FWM: What is the secret to success in this business?
The main ingredients in becoming successful are always having a higher goal to reach, a great attitude, motivation & professionalism.
FWM: Tell us how you are helping artists today.
Today, I am working on developing systems to employ more makeup artists and take on and help as many friends of mine as I can to develop businesses for themselves.
I enjoy the creativity and fast pace creative environments. I’m thankful that all of the clients that I gravitate to & other stylists and creatives I work with just so happen to also be incredible people.
FWM: How important are collaborations as a Makeup Artist?
I’m currently not working on any collaborations right now… I’m actually working on a couple of things under my own name at this point. I think it is so important to not only cosign other brands’ greatness but show the world your own if you have the opportunity so I am very excited to start this journey!
