FWM’s Queen of Real Estate Issue (May/June print) features formidable women at the top of their game who are making serious boss moves in the real estate arena, an industry traditionally dominated by men.

FWM: Please introduce yourself and your business.

I am Jeri Godhigh, Real Estate Broker & CEO of Godhigh & Associates Realty Company in Acworth, GA and have led a successful real estate career for the past 14 years. My firm is anchored by the dynamics of excellent Customer Service which focuses on a quality and successful experience by our dedicated and full service real estate team. We manage and navigate our client’s dream from conception to closing; producing dreams at a higher level is our number one priority.

I am originally from the Washington DC Metropolitan area and have lived in the Acworth area for the last 24 years. I believe in serving the community by giving tangible steps to living the ‘American Dream’ and how real estate investments can help you leave a legacy.

I am a proud Minister at Grace Community Christian Church in Kennesaw, Georgia, a Real Estate School Instructor at the American Real Estate University, the Past 1st Assistant Director of the 9th District Georgia PTA and the current Vice President of the Harrison High School PTA. In addition, I sit on the Guidance Advisory Board of Harrison High School and serve as the Chaplain of the Love Jones Foundation founded by Grammy Award Nominated Artist Glenn Jones.

I have been married for 28 years to my husband and best friend, Robert Godhigh, have 4 wonderful children and 5 beloved grandchildren that are my heart in human form.

FWM: What first drew your interest to the real estate industry?

My passion for real estate started long ago; in fact, I met my husband in real estate school over 30 years ago. His engineering job relocated us from the Washington, DC area to Georgia during a season of rapid growth in the Atlanta area. Seeing the culture of real estate here reigniting our passion and we began to become savvy real estate investors at the market’s peak. As my business grew, I realized that it was time to expand. Against all odds, I dug in, ventured out to get my real estate license and then as they say…the rest was history. During our investing days we interviewed with Egypt Sherrod’s Team for the full renovation project we completed on a home in Grant Park which was very exciting for us.

FWM: As a woman in real estate, what do you feel has been the hardest hurdle to overcome?

As an African American woman predominantly selling, marketing and networking in the Cobb County area, it has been a constant struggle to prove my worth. My work and results speak for themselves but I’ve worked hard to lay my claim. There are naysayers and simply those that have their preferences but given the opportunity, I show my clients that I’m well qualified, knowledgeable and always exceed their expectations.

“I have implemented a team of partners that collaborate on various real estate acquisitions.”

FWM: You wear many hats. What is your advice on balancing family and business?

Balancing work and family can be very difficult at times, but I encourage anyone to prioritize, prioritize, prioritize! Complete tasks by level of acuity and make each minute count. Start off your day with a scripture or positive affirmation, get your daily tasks together and execute. Being a business owner is about discipline Train your mind and body to work when it’s time, rest when it’s time and relax when it’s time. Learn to turn off the computer, close up shop and live some of each day; time is precious and going fast. Each day is a gift so spend a little time unwrapping it.

I have an Autoimmune Disease called Scleroderma. This disease has no cure and can make quotidian tasks difficult but with God’s grace and the help of my family, I am able to achieve my dreams and fulfill the calling that God has placed over life. Every day isn’t easy to run your business, grow your business and effectively manage all the moving parts but remain grateful. There was a day you once prayed for what you have. Remember, you can make an impact and you can make a difference in this world by touching one person at a time. Some call it work; I call it a privilege!

FWM: Please tell us about your other passions!

I love real estate but I am also an avid educator. I love teaching! I love the opportunity to impart into others. Whether it is one on one, in a classroom setting or ministering, I get excited for the opportunity to teach. Not only do others learn but it keeps me on my toes. I stay abreast of the latest and greatest, take polls, review research and write course content as a result.

I am a Real Estate Instructor and it gives such pleasure to see the light turn on in others and the joy of being available to share what I know with fellow agents and prospectives.

But most importantly it is a blessing to be able to share the love of Christ with others and to be able to mentor to those that God allows me to encounter.

FWM: What tools and/or strategic partnerships have you put in place to help women? And the community?

I have implemented a team of partners that collaborate on various real estate acquisitions. We are working with a Small Business Entity to en- compass SBA’s for businesses within our community that will also ex- tend to developing business credit for their companies.

FWM: What is next in the life of Jeri Godhigh?

My husband and I are in the process of acquiring our own Insurance Company as Agency Owners with a reputable insurance company. Our insurance company and my real estate firm will work hand in hand. As Agency Owners, we will be able to assist in equipping our clients with knowledge, tools for success and the best coverage to protect their investments. Our vision is to leave a legacy for generations to come.
