FWM: At the age of eight you found a passion for writing, rapping, and singing. Take us back.
My passion for music started at the young age of eight. One day, my uncle (only a few years older than I am), asked me to jot down the lyrics, as he freestyled a rap. I can remember him saying, “Keep up with what I’m saying.” This was my first time seeing this type of process when it comes to writing music. This inspired me to create my own lyrics to tracks. What I loved most of all is that, in my mind, I can escape into a world of which I was creating through my music. I was able to express all emotions. I loved it! I’ve been writing since that day forth.
FWM: How hard is it to be an Independent Artist?
It can certainly be challenging in being an independent artist. There’s more work to be done and more work on our shoulders. In order to see progress, we must be dedicated, determined, have patience, and be consistent. This includes such things as self-promoting, learning ways in getting our music out to a wider audience, learning to brand ourselves effectively, building relationships, putting out tracks, and much more. Not to mention, having the funds to do these things. A positive thing that I got from this is seeing the progress and knowing that I’ve worked EXTRA hard in getting to where I am today in the music business, with no label under my belt to help me with these things. If an artist really wants it, they’ll do the same for themselves because they’ll know their worth. They will continue to chase after their dreams in the music industry.
FWM: Tell us about being featured “In the Mix.” What did you enjoy the most?
Being featured in “In the Mix TV Show” was, and still is, exciting to me. Being on television in general is something that excites me. I was ecstatic! This makes my second time being featured on a TV series. The first TV series is called, “On the T.R.A.P.” It’s on Peachtree TV, and channel 7. Both, “In the Mix TV Show,” and “On the T.R.A.P,” give celebrities and independent artists exposure. Overall, the fact that I’m on television is a huge success and achievement. Therefore, I enjoyed most that I was on television sharing my story and getting more exposure and recognition as a music artist.
FWM: Your single, Check Up was chosen to be featured on Snoop Dogg mixtape called The Return of Doggystyle Records. What excited you the most?
What excited me the most about being featured on Snoop Dogg mixtape, The Return of Doggystyle Records,” is the fact that I was hand-picked! This means that my track, “Check Up,” had the qualities that they were looking for. They were impressed with my lyrics, the way I delivered on the track, and impressed with my personal producer, Pat-Run Beatz. It’s a great thing to know that not only my fans, but people in the music industry love my music.
FWM: What was your inspiration for “Let’s Get Paid?”
My inspiration for creating my track, “Let’s Get Paid,” was to empower couples. Nothing in life comes free. Therefore, you and your partner can “grind” and work hard together to make ends meet. Not to mention, this song indicates that nothing and no one can break your bond with your significant other.
FWM: Can you share your influences?
My influences come from the older generation of hip-hop and rap. For example, MC Lite, Missy Elliot, Gangsta Boo, Mia X, Queen Latifah, and Bone Thugs n’ Harmony (just to name a few). I respect them as artists, and they remain relevant in the music industry. They have meaning behind their lyrics and their music tells a story. Not to mention, I love their individual style and taste in their music. They inspired me to produce meaning behind my music. With this, people can relate to my music more and paint “visuals,” with my storytelling. Having meaning behind my lyrics is what makes me different from many artists.
FWM: Tell us about your new projects. Any collaborations in the near future?
New projects for me includes making videos for my singles that are already streaming on all platforms. Now that the tracks are out, I want to create some awesome visual contents for them. My lyrics in my tracks are incredible and I want incredible visuals behind them. Soon, I want to collaborate with celebrities such as Cardi B, Nikki Minaj, Billie Eilish, to name a few. I love Electric Dance music and it’s one of my favorite genres I enjoy. Therefore, I wish would incorporate my style into this this style of music. It will be amazing!
