Self-care is so important with the stresses of our ever-busy lives. Work, family, social engagements can all take a toll on you and your one wish is to get away. But as life would have it, we don’t have the time to just jet off to some tropical paradise. We can’t just leave our businesses for days on end. The thought is unheard of. Who would make the calls? Who would handle the meetings? Who would make the executive decisions? It would be crazy, right? But wait, have you ever considered a Staycation?
A Staycation is when make your getaway not so far from where you are. Plan a weekend at a local bed and breakfast or Airbnb, someplace that you don’t frequent, and unplug. Silence your phone, limit your internet access to a few hours a day and do something you enjoy. Go on a hike, have brunch with your girlfriends or just read a book and relax. You may be surprised at the calming effect this will have on not only your mind, but your body as well.
Don’t feel like changing locations? You don’t have to. Finding a quiet place at home works just the same. Start with running a hot bath with essential oils. Lavender and eucalyptus are two of that work wonderfully for stress relief. Then light a few candles and soak. Allow your mind to disconnect from everything as your stresses melt away in the scented suds of your bath. Follow up with some soothing music or meditation. Sometimes you just have to reboot the system. You will come back feeling refreshed, energetic and invigorated for whatever is next on your to-do list.
It is in our DNA to want to complete tasks, to want to finish things, but the first thing we need to realize if that we can’t accomplish any of these things if WE are not in the best of health. That means, physically, mentally and emotionally. That is the hard truth. We cannot be our best selves when we are stressed and our minds have no chance to reenergize. So, clear a few days or even a few hours from your busy schedule for some much-needed downtime.
Relax, recharge and come back fiercer than ever.
